CELM has reopened its JustGiving page to raise the final £4,000 to pay for the analysis and conservation of the 1500 objects found by the community archaeology. Donate here https://www.justgiving.com/page/robert-hay-2 The exciting Story: Nearly two thousand years ago at an Early Church monastery on the island of Lismore, craft workers were making gold and silver jewellery, and carving fine objects in wood, horn, bone and stone. These and nearly 1500 other objects, recovered over five years of field work by community archaeology, are now at the National Museum of Scotland for conservation and identification. For example, X-ray analysis of the illustrated intact crucible confirms the use of gold. All of this work, to help in understanding Scotland's past, is being supported financially by the Lismore Historical Society (Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mor) with the help of generous donors. Our team of volunteers is looking to raise a final £4,000 to complete this important work, which is revealing important new ideas using "state of the art" techniques.
